Abyssal Laniakea
The deep troubled oceans
Short
Description
Bioluminescence has been a favorite subject of mine. All bioluminescent organisms use a reaction between an enzyme and a substrate to make light, but different species use different chemicals in the process, suggesting that the ability to make light may have evolved independently many times. It occurs very commonly in the abyssal depths of the oceans where darkness is permanent. However it also happens on land. As a student of Marine Biology I was fascinated by the beautiful complexity of bioluminescent organisms. I painted the marine parts, squids and fish, back in 2000 when I was first exploring UV pigments, and finished it 20 years later when I decided to add a layer with Laniakea style birds.
