Laniakea Giant Fern
Invisible night life

Short
Description

Laniakea is the name astronomers gave to a super cluster of galaxies where our own Milky Way resides. It means ‘incommensurable heavens’ in Hawaiian and it has been a recurrent subject in my work since I started to paint seriously in 2019, inspired by a young painter from NY called Melissa McCracken (@melissamccrack). Here I use palette knife and then a brush to ‘elongate’ the features of a giant fern, like the spiral arms of a galaxy. I included many medusae, birds and other bioluminescent abstract organisms that fly or float around the fern while UV lights are used to illuminate.
