Laniakea Green
Our Supercluster
Short
Description
This was my first attempt at abstraction with a purpose. After being inspired by the young New York artist Melissa McCracken (@melissamccrack), I decided to experiment with oil on canvas and abstract forms. My intention was to use a lot of colors and then diffuminate them into the background. By chance that diffumination became long strings that, to me, looked like spiral arms of galaxies, hence the reference to a long string of them moving in one direction, like our own Milky Way is doing within Laniakea, our supercluster. My mom loved this picture, and had had it hanging in her room for a few years. When she died I gave it away to a dear family member that wanted something from her.
