Laniakea Silletero
Flower galaxies

Short
Description
Still experimenting with abstraction and difumination of palette knife blobs of oil paint on canvas, this piece, that started as a supercluster of many colors, suddenly took the form of a human resembling a person humping a ‘silleta’. The silleta is local big basket made out of wood, used by farmers in the mid 20th century, to carry bundles of cultivated flowers from the surrounding mountains of the valley of Aburrá, to the markets in the city of Medellín. They are called ‘silleteros’. There is an annual competition celebrating the famous silletas at the Flower Fest every August in our city. I gave this painting to a dear friend of mine Don Rey in the town of Zapatoca in northern Colombia.
